Detroit Free Press Op-Ed: “Sharing environmental, social impacts with investors isn’t ‘woke’. It’s good business.”

Laura Asiala and Neil Hawkins make a compelling case for consistent, reliable ESG information for investors in an Opinion Editorial (Op-Ed) published by the Detroit Free Press.

On March 15, 2024, the Detroit Free Press published an op-ed by Laura Asiala, CSO for WholeWorks and Neil Hawkins, president of Michigan Sustainability Associates and retired Dow Chief Sustainability Officer. In it, they make a compelling case for consistent, reliable Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) information. for investors.

From the op-ed: “(I)nvestors are increasingly demanding on those topics for one simple reason: It matters.

It doesn’t matter because "it’s the right thing to do." This is not a nod to a progressive agenda. It matters because this kind of information is needed by investors to make thoughtful decisions about their money. In fact, to make decisions without applying consideration for these important issues skews capitalism, because it does not reflect the true potential risks, rewards and impact of investments.”
